Oh boy, is going to be long but here we go.
In the year 1999 Hugo Chavez was elected president of venezuela by fair elections. He was a military guy (that last of his class and was always known by his bad attitude and being lazy). He organized few years before 1999 a “Golpe de Estado” that’s when military tries to take over the government and try to make the president quit his job.
They killed a lot of innocent people and it failed. So a lot of people were shocked he was elected as a nw president but he had great ideas and he was hiding by this socialism thing “everybody should be equal, he was going to work hard to make everybody have equal rights and equal payment” so it sounded nice. But oh it was so the opposite.
Now is 2014. Venezuela is the country with the highest reserve of petroleum in the world. We once considerer the capital of modernism in Latin America, everybody wanted to come an live here. But he destroyed all that… he made us the country with more deaths, in 2013 at least 24.000 people died because of violence (robbery or kidnaps, not because of natural causes). In the 14 years of government at least 200.000 people have died, and just on last weekend 100 people were killed.
At first his government wasn’t that bad but he was slowly taking a lot of things away from us. Chavez died last year and put Nicolas Maduro as his successor. He is a Colombian (he says he is Venezuelan but his birth certificate says the opposite) and he shouldn’t be president bc of that. He never graduated, he didn’t even finished middle school.
Now we are a country were people need to be in line in the supermarket by 5 am just to buy to packages of corn meal or toilet paper. When you go to the supermarket is common to not find sugar, milk, eggs, flour, toilet paper, deodorant, rice, oil, you know basic stuff.
Last year the opposition (people who are against the government) called for new elections (we had elections every year but because the government had taken over the Election Commission they won every time) so the government agreed to have the elections. Everybody went to vote, the opposition candidate had a lot of chances to win… they made walks every week and it was always packed but like always the Election Commission (CNE) said Nicolas Maduro won. So people decided to go to the streets…
And since then people have been on the streets. Mostly are students from all over the country. They don’t have any weapons, they make this bombs out of glass bottles and gasoline… and throw it to military that have gas bombs and guns and guns with rubber bullets.
A lot of students are in jail, they have been torture, raped and some of them are still in jail since a long time. And many others have been killed by people who are with the government and go to the protests and start shooting them.
This problem in my country is very long and very complex. So I let a lot of stuff outside because I don’t want this to be so long. I’m going to put a video that will explain this whole thing much better. And if you still have questions just ask me and I will try to answer.
